Its been a week or so again, even though I tried to get back into a steady rhythm of posting. Anyway that’s life 🙂 So im back to the intense heat of Djibouti. Its not so much the heat that’s the problem now but the fact that Ramadan is ongoing simultaneously to the summer heat … More Back in the Sauna
Went out for another quick diving trip on Saturday. Did a wreck dive at an old tug boat and the second dive at a canyon reef. Visibility was not amazing but temperature, biodiversity and currents were perfect. All in all another great dive! Some pics below, unfortunately I don’t have a water resistant camera nor … More Weekend Diving.
Yesterday I embarked yet on another diving trip herein Djibouti. Got up at 7, got ready, grabbed a few croissants on the way and boarded the boat. The weather was clear blue, warm and calm. We had a group of about 20 people of which 6 were diving and the rest snorkeling. It took about … More White Sands Dive Trip
So yesterday got to go on another night time wreck dive here in Djibouti. The sea was the calmest in 5 years according to our resident diving instructor. The Dive itself was just as amazing just as the first time. I have a more detailed post on the previous dive here: https://kamakawida.wordpress.com/2015/03/12/one-of-the-best-dives-i-have-ever-been-on/ We also had … More Yesterdays Night Dive.
Yesterday was the last dive of my Advanced Open Water course. It was a single night dive at an old massive (150m) ship wreck roughly 20 minutes outside of Djibouti port by speedboat. We were a total of 8 persons (2 crew, dive instructor and the rest divers). We departed at 17:45 just as the … More One of the best Dives I have ever been on.
Here is a site that has pictures of some of the sights underwater here in Djibouti. The one location which is especially interesting is the ‘crack’ which is a narrow gap formed between two continental plates (the continental fault). This is definitely one location that I am looking forward to diving! Hopefully in one or … More Djibouti Diving Underwater Pictures.
Yesterday was my second diving trip here. All I can say is that it was brilliant. Great weather, water, visibility, marine life, boat, crew and people. It was a day trip and we did two dives. First one was a deep dive (for my Advanced Open Water Course) and second one was more of a … More Diving in Djibouti Trip 2.
Weekends here go according to the Muslim majority, Friday to Saturday just like some other Muslim countries. So yesterday (sat) being my ‘ Sunday’ I booked a trip to go diving outside Djibouti City next to an island called Ile Moucha. The open deck diving boat left at around 8:30 in the morning and took … More Diving in Djibouti.
I have now nearly been in Djibouti close to a week. So far it has been a great experience and I don’t see that changing. The first few days were confusing and a shock to the system. Not only because of the nearly 50 degrees centigrade change in temperature (Finland to Djibouti) but also because … More Alien but Familiar; Djibouti.
